One of my favorite things about Southern Virginia Beach is how many genuinely good local coffee shops are tucked into the neighborhoods locals actually live in – places like Pungo, Princess Anne, Red Mill, Strawbridge, Courthouse, and even out toward Sandbridge.
Whether you’re vacationing in Sandbridge and searching for the best coffee near your beach house, a local looking for your new favorite iced latte spot, or someone considering relocating to Southern Virginia Beach, these coffee shops give you a real feel for the community. Slow mornings, local conversations, outdoor patios, and neighborhood regulars – this side of Virginia Beach has a completely different pace, and that’s exactly why people love it.
Here are a few of the best local coffee shops around Southern Virginia Beach right now.
If you’ve spent any time in the Pungo, Red Mill, or Sandbridge area lately, chances are you’ve already heard about Pinup Coffee Co.
Their newer Sherwood Lakes location has quickly become one of the most talked-about coffee spots in Southern Virginia Beach and for good reason. Located just south of Red Mill on the way to Pungo and Sandbridge, the space feels like the perfect mix of modern coffee shop and neighborhood gathering place.
Think lake views, bright open seating, scratch-made breakfast, and genuinely excellent coffee. The patio overlooking the water is reason enough to visit, especially on cooler mornings or before heading down to Sandbridge Beach.
Vacationing in Sandbridge? Add this stop to your morning routine.
Relocating to Virginia Beach? This is exactly the kind of local spot that makes people fall in love with the Pungo and Princess Anne lifestyle.
Astraea Coffee has quietly built a loyal following among locals who want something cozy, community-focused, and far from chain coffee vibes.
The atmosphere feels warm and relaxed, with plenty of indoor seating and outdoor space for when the weather cooperates. It’s the kind of place where people meet for business conversations, moms gather after school drop-off, and remote workers settle in for a few hours with laptops and lattes.
If you’re exploring neighborhoods like Ashville Park, Lagomar, or the Courthouse area, this is a great stop to add to your route.
Baja Coffee Co. has become one of those “if you know, you know” local coffee spots around the Red Mill and Strawbridge area.
Tucked off Fisher Arch, Baja has a laid-back coastal feel that fits Southern Virginia Beach perfectly. It’s casual, friendly, and always seems to have a mix of locals stopping in before work, beachgoers grabbing iced coffee, and regulars lingering over breakfast.
Their coffee menu is solid, but honestly, part of the appeal is the atmosphere. It feels like a neighborhood staple – the kind of place people become loyal to quickly.
And for anyone visiting Sandbridge, it’s an easy stop on the way to or from the beach.
Corduroy Coffee & Goods has earned a reputation as one of the coolest coffee spots in Virginia Beach and locals absolutely love it for the vibe as much as the coffee.
The aesthetic is clean, modern, and intentionally curated without feeling overdone. Great coffee, great merch, and one of those spaces that somehow feels both trendy and welcoming at the same time.
If you’re newer to Virginia Beach or spending time exploring different neighborhoods, Corduroy gives you a feel for the creative, small-business side of the area that locals are really proud of.
It’s also a favorite among remote workers, young professionals, and people who genuinely appreciate a thoughtfully designed coffee shop experience.
There are so many great local coffee shops scattered throughout the Pungo, Princess Anne, Red Mill, Strawbridge, Courthouse, and Sandbridge areas, especially once you start asking locals where they actually go regularly.
A few more neighborhood favorites worth checking out:
These are the kinds of spots that become part of people’s routines — and honestly, that says a lot about life in Southern Virginia Beach.
One thing I always tell relocation clients is this: coffee shops tell you a lot about an area.
Southern Virginia Beach, especially Pungo, Princess Anne, Red Mill, Strawbridge, Courthouse, and Sandbridge, has a completely different feel than the Oceanfront or Town Center. Life moves slower here. People stay awhile. Local businesses matter.
And honestly, the coffee shops reflect that.
They’re community-driven, family-friendly, relaxed, and local-first, which is a huge reason why so many people are choosing to move to this side of Virginia Beach.
So whether you’re just visiting Sandbridge for the week or considering making Virginia Beach home full-time, these local coffee shops are a pretty great place to start exploring.
If you’re considering relocating to Pungo, Princess Anne, Red Mill, Strawbridge, Courthouse, or Sandbridge, I’d love to help you learn the area beyond just home prices and listings.
Because finding the right neighborhood is also about finding your favorite coffee shop, your weekend routine, and the places that start to feel like home.
