August 3, 2026
It’s hard to believe summer is already winding down, but August is packed with some of the biggest events of the season! Before the school routines return, it’s the perfect time to squeeze in a few more family adventures around Coastal Virginia.
Whether you’re looking for free concerts, waterfront festivals, outdoor movies, or a memorable weekend at the beach, here are some of the top family-friendly events happening around Hampton Roads this August.
Fridays, August 7, 14, 21 & 28 | 7:00–10:00 PM
Virginia Beach Fishing Pier – 15th Street & Atlantic Avenue
There’s nothing quite like spending a summer evening on the Oceanfront. Party at the Pier features free live music on the beach, dancing, and beautiful ocean views just steps from the boardwalk. Bring a beach chair, grab dinner nearby, and enjoy a relaxing night with family and friends.
Thursdays in August | Around 8:30 PM (at dusk)
29th Street Beach – Virginia Beach Oceanfront
One of our favorite summer traditions continues into August! Bring blankets, chairs, popcorn, and enjoy free family movies right on the beach under the stars. It’s an affordable way to make lasting summer memories before school starts.
Friday & Saturday, August 21–22 | 5:00–11:00 PM
Town Point Park – 113 Waterside Drive, Norfolk
While the music is the main attraction, the waterfront setting makes this a wonderful evening for families with older children. Enjoy beautiful views of the Elizabeth River, local food vendors, and nationally recognized jazz artists in one of Norfolk’s most scenic parks. Admission tickets are required.
Friday & Saturday, August 28–29 | Beginning at 6:30 PM
32nd Street on the Beach – Virginia Beach Oceanfront
End the summer with one of Virginia Beach’s largest outdoor music festivals. Admission is free, and the event features live entertainment, food vendors, dancing, and plenty of energy along the Oceanfront. If you’re planning to attend, arrive early since general admission is first-come, first-served.
Friday, August 21 | Evening Activities Begin at 6:00 PM
Ocean View Beach Park – Norfolk
Hosted by Norfolk Festevents, Family Fun Night includes games, music, children’s activities, and plenty of space for families to enjoy an evening along the Chesapeake Bay. If you’re looking for a quieter alternative to the Oceanfront crowds, this is a wonderful option.
Even if your calendar isn’t full, August is one of the best months to enjoy everything that makes Coastal Virginia such a special place to live.
Some of my family’s favorite summer traditions include:
Sometimes the best memories are the simplest ones.
One of the things I appreciate most about living here is how easy it is to make family memories. Almost every weekend offers something fun to do—whether it’s a free concert, a festival by the water, or simply enjoying an evening on the boardwalk.
It’s one of the many reasons people choose to call Coastal Virginia home.
If you’re thinking about buying, selling, or relocating before the holidays, I’d love to help you find the perfect place to enjoy everything our community has to offer.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful August and a fantastic end to summer!
