Welcome to Coastal Virginia! If you’re new to the area—or just looking to make the most of the last golden weeks of summer—you’re in the right place. Coastal Virginia is bursting with sunshine, waterfront charm, and family-friendly things to do before fall breezes in. Let’s soak up every last drop of summer together!
One of the most peaceful places in Virginia Beach, First Landing offers calm waters, soft sands, and unbeatable views of the sun dipping below the Chesapeake Bay. Bring a beach blanket, some snacks, and enjoy nature’s show.
Saturday mornings are meant for fresh produce, local honey, homemade bread, and a good coffee in hand. Don’t miss the Virginia Beach Farmers Market or Ghent Farmers Market in Norfolk for a true taste of the region.
Nothing says “coastal living” like spotting dolphins on a breezy boat ride. Several local charters leave from Rudee Inlet and offer 90-minute sunset cruises that are perfect for all ages.
Whether you’re into rosé or hoppy IPAs, Coastal Virginia’s craft scene has something for you. Check out Back Bay Brewing or Chrysalis Vineyards for great vibes and even better drinks.
Norfolk’s NEON District is a color-lover’s dream. Walkable and free, this arts district is packed with bold murals, unique sculptures, and creative energy.
Try a peaceful paddle at the Narrows, launch from Little Island Park, or take a guided tour through marshy trails at Back Bay Wildlife Refuge. Rentals are easy to find and it’s a great way to explore the coastline up close.
Several local parks and town centers host outdoor movie nights through August. Bring chairs, snacks, and the whole family. Bonus: most of them are free!
Is it really summer without a cone? Try Lolly’s Creamery in Virginia Beach or Doumar’s in Norfolk (home of the world’s first ice cream cone!) for a true local favorite.
Get your home (or your wardrobe) ready for fall at charming spots like The Lemon Cabana in Virginia Beach or Three Ships Mercantile in Norfolk. You’ll find unique gifts, local art, and seaside flair.
From 17th Street to 31st Street, the Virginia Beach boardwalk lights up with live music, food vendors, and dancing crowds every weekend in August. It’s a perfect night out for couples, families, or new friends in town.
Whether you’re settling into a new home or simply exploring your corner of the coast, there’s no better time to get out and enjoy everything Hampton Roads has to offer. Welcome home—and enjoy your first (or fiftieth) summer here!
