If you’re starting to think about buying a home, you’ll likely hear two terms early on: pre-qualification and pre-approval.
They sound similar, but they serve different purposes—and knowing the difference can help you feel more prepared when you start looking.
Pre-qualification is a simple first step. It’s usually based on basic information you share about your income, credit, and debt.
It gives you a general idea of what you might be able to afford, but it isn’t verified.
Pre-approval goes further. A lender reviews your financial documents and confirms your numbers more closely.
